Meet the Children
Robert

Our little Robert is just 4 years old and suffers from cerebral palsy. Robert has been with us at Home of Hope for just over 2 years and is from a small village named Busesa.

Robert was being cared for by a relative but the care he received was very poor to the point where his life was in danger.

The staff at Home of Hope is working with Robert to help calm his very agitated nature and provide the necessary care and medication to help treat his condition.
Rasida

Always happy and smiling, sweet little Rasida will turn 4 years old on Christmas Eve. Rasida is afflicted with sickle cell disease and was rejected by her mother because she was too much of a burden with another disabled child already in the family.

Little Rasida's bones are very fragile and almost too weak to support her weight. The staff at Home of Hope is teaching Rasida to walk with the aid of a walker. She is also on folic acid medication to help strengthen her bones.


Junior

Cute and happy little Junior is almost 4 years old and comes from the village of Walukuba. Junior suffers from Hydrocephalus which causes water on the brain resulting in an enlargement of the head, convulsions, tunnel vision, and mental disability. Hydrocephalus can also cause death.

When Junior's father was involved in a motorbike accident, his mother was unable to care for both him and his father. Junior is learning how to stand and sit independently.

Charity

Our beautiful shy little girl, Charity, is 6 years old and suffers from cerebral palsy. When Charity's biological father died in battle, her very young mother re-married but the step father mistreated both of them terribly and demanded Charity's mother abandon her because of her disability.

Reluctantly, the mother in tears, gave Charity up where she eventually came under the care of Home of Hope. Attempts have been made to contact the mother for visits but she has disappeared. The Home of Hope staff is helping sweet Charity to sit and feed herself

Patience

Patience has just celebrated her first birthday but was born HIV positive and has lost both her mother and father to the AIDS virus.

She is from the village of Buwenda where her elderly grandmother attempted to look after her but could not properly care for her because of her illness.

At Home of Hope, little Patience is receiving treatment for HIV and will need continued medical treatment to try and prevent the AIDS virus from developing.

Jamira

Jamira is a happy 6 year old girl. She comes from the village of Juuko Zone, Kibuye and suffers from cerebral palsy.

The child's father has spent lots of money on the child’s health and was not getting well and up to now no one knows his where about. Her mother is a prostitute and couldn't have time for this child. Child is unable to walk, but can crawl and is being trained to standing and walking.

Philip

Not much is known about Philip who is a happy 11 year old boy. Philip suffers from cerebral palsy and was brought to the Home of Hope by a local organization call SIITA NEST because they could not help much regarding his condition. Home of Hope is able to make Philip learn to crawl and is being trained on walking and wheelchair skills.
Amina

Amina 15 year old lovely girl was found in the streets by the police who took her to the probation office in Jinja who thetn referred her to Home of Hope. Not much is known about the child. Amina suffers from epilepsy and is on medication and our plan is to take Amino for vocational skills training.
Mpanga

Mpanga is a happy 6 year old boy who is diagnosed with Hydrocephalus. Mpanga's father died when Mpanga was one week old and he stayed with the mother who got weaken by HIV and was in the hospital for a long time. Mpanga was left in the house alone only for well wishers to give him food. So the community got concerned and contacted the probation office for help who later referred them to Home of Hope. Mpanga is on therapy program and is being monitored for the hydrocephalus. With availability of funds, Mpanga can attend as his cognition is fine.
Peter

This 4 year old boy suffers from cerebral palsy and is HIV positive. Peter was brought to the Home of Hope by his old grandmother for therapy, but on assessment and follow up, Home of Hope realized that Peter was in danger as his grandmother could not meet his medical needs and Peter was requiring close monitoring and supervision. Peter was unable to walk, stand, crawl and sit independently, but is now walking with help of therapy. We are now preparing Peter to go to school.
Peter

Not much is known about Peter. As Peter was picking from the garbage by sanyu babies home and they could not establish Peter's biological data. Being a child with cerebral palsy sanyu could not give the medical care the child needed. Peter is undergoing therapy and is able to feed himself and is learning to stand.
Yowana

Yowana is a quiet 7 year old boy that suffers from celebral palsy and is from the village of Bususwa Kiranga (Butagaya).

Yowana's mother disappeared after having two children with disabilities. The father became an alcoholic and irresponsible. This made Yowana to become severely malnourished only for soft power to intervene by referring Yowana to Home of Hope for nutritional support, care and therapy. Yowana is now on nutritional and therapy program and is now looking far better than he did before.
Henry

Henry was born in a village called Kaliro. Henry was born a normal child until he became diabled at the age of 6 months after a severe malaria infection. However, his father discovering that his child has developed a disability, so he disappeeared and occasionally reappeared threatening to kill both the mother and Henry. The case was reported to police, but his father could not be arrested. His mother fearing for their lives was referred to Home of Hope by the LC1 of their village and the home accepted the child. Currently the child is learning to sit, feed himself and stand.
Godfrey

Godfrey is a brother to Yowana- one of our children. His mother disappeared after having two children with disabilities. The father became an alcoholic and irresponsible. This made Godfrey to become severely malnourished only for soft power to intervene by referring Godfrey to Home of Hope for nutritional support, care and therapy. Godfrey is now on nutritional and therapy program and is now looking much better and has put on weight. With child funds Godfrey is able to go to school.
Maureen

Maureen is a beautiful 13 year old girl from the village of Mayuge Town and suffers with cerebral palsy.

Maureen was staying with her old grandmother after the death of her parents. Maureen's grandmother was too old to provide all the basic needs that Maureen needed and could not even manage to care for Maureen at home. While at home, a team visited Maureen and realized she was at risk and accepted to take her to Home of Hope. Since then, she is able to learn to sit, feed herself and crawl around. Maureen is now ready to attend school.
Faith

Faith is a 17 year old girl and suffers with cerebral palsy. Faith was discovered during a home visit to the village of Nakabango. She was abundant at her grandmother's place by her mother who could not be located by the Home of Hope for counseling. On assessing the living conditions of her health the team decided to put Faith for care and support. Faith is now on daily therapy program. Unfortunately her grandmother has passed away since.
Derrick

Derrick is a 13 year old child with cerebral palsy. When Edith had Derrick she visited many health units and rehabilitation facilities for some help. This helped her to learn and discover a lot of things about disability. With different training and hard work she learned how to care for her son. Derrick is one of the most privileged children in Uganda in the way that at his age and his disability he has not developed contractures as other children with the disability at his age. His testimony is reason home of Hope came into existence. Derrick is on a daily therapy program.
Moses

Moses is a 15 year old boy from the village of Mafubira and has been diagnosed with epilepsy. Moses could get frequent seizures and now has been controlled with medication.

Home of hope was directed to Moses by a concerned neighbor who discovered that Moses was always being locked and tied up in a dark room. Moses was not given meals and could feed on pupu and anything he could find around him. His father is an alcoholic and could not care for him, as his mother left due to her husband's drinking problem. Home of Hope has now taken care of Moses. He is now being trained to walking and standing.
Tony

Tony is a 6 year old children from the village of Mukono. He has mild form of hydrocephalous and a development delay. Tony was with his mom, but unfortunately the mother has since died of HIV. His grandmother had provided for him, but also locked him inside the house. Tony was treated very badly, but someone who knew about the Home of Hope requested for the organization to take care of Tony. Tony was very weak and couldn't even walk or feed himself. Since he's been at Home of Hope, he now does most activities on a daily basis and now even walks. He's learning to talk, but says a few words and can now call out names.
Owen

Owen who is a delightful 3 year old boy who was born in the village of Nwaaka B LC1 Luuka District and has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. His father who was the solitary caretaker, but couldn't provide for Owen because of his disability. Owen's three other siblings were taken up by other relatives. The chairman who knew about Home of Hope came to us requesting for the organization to take Owen in because the death of his father. Owen's mother died immediately after he was born. Currently Owen is on therapy and nutritional supplements to improve his health.
Birimabazale

This 3 year old boy is from the village of Kangulumira and is diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Birimabazale was referred to the Home of Hope by the probation officer on the basis of his living condition and health as he was staying with his grandfather after the death of his parents. Birimabazale is being trained to learn to sit and roll in lying position. He is also on nutritional supplements as he is too small for his age.
Miracle

The age of Miracle is unknown and she was born in the village of Walukuba. She has cerebral palsy and was brought to Home of Hope through the district probation officer. Miracles mother abandoned her at Walukuba with a note. So the neighbors' took the Miracle to the district probation officer who later forwarded Miracle to Home of Hope. She has learned to sit without support and is being trained on feeding herself.
Gloria

This happy girl is 19 years old and was born in a village called Mbale. She suffers with cerebral palsy.

Gloria's mother died when she was 2 years old and was staying with an old aunt, but when Gloria turned 13 years her aunt decided to contact the probation office for help because of her age. She also feared that child could be raped as her aunt could be away some of the days. Home of Hope was contacted and now she has learned to feed herself and can also sit on floor with minimum support.
Prossy

Prossy is a 23 year old girl and has hydrocephalous. She was born in the village of Wantayi Kayunga District. Home of Hope met Prossy when she was staying with the grandmother, an older lady who couldn't take care of her. Prossy could be locked in the house alone for hours.
The mother abandoned her, however Prossy is now staying at Home of Hope because the grandmother passed away and she has no home to go to or relative to take care of her.
Catherine

Catherine is a 5 year old girl who has cerebral palsy and is from the village of Budumbuli Bugembe. Catherine parents passed away and had to stay with her grandmother, who also has a disability. The probation office deemed her grandfather was incapable of caring for Catherine and referred her to the Home of Hope. Child has learned to sit and is being trained on crawling and standing.
