Meet the Children
Abraham

Abraham is 16 years old and has cerebral palsy. Abraham was abandoned by his mother at a witch doctors shrine, after she failed to pay for the services of the witch doctor. He was rescued by his uncle after 3 months at the witch doctors shrine.

Before Abraham came to Home of Hope, he lived with his uncle. Every day the uncle locked him up in the house as he goes for work until the evening hours. When Abraham arrived at Home of Hope, he appeared frail, malnourished and he had established contractures. He is dependent in all age appropriate ADL (Activities of Daily Living) tasks.

Abraham’s date of birth is December 25th 2001.
Agnes

Agnes is 8 years old and has cerebral palsy. Agnes was brought to Home of Hope by an organization called Foodstep Uganda. She was rescued by an old man, who claimed that a young lady was attempting to set ablaze on Agnes with the help of polythene bags. When the lady saw the man, she abandoned her mission and escaped. Agnes was brought to police who referred her to Foodstep Uganda. Since Foodstep Uganda doesn’t have the facilities to take care of disabled children, they asked Home of Hope to admit her.

When Agnes came she looked frail and was malnourished. She can sit and move independently; however she depends in the rest of activities of daily living tasks. Agnes got her name from a police woman in Entebbe, who handled this case. Agnes is a very happy and joyful girl.

Her date of birth is May 3rd 2009.
Akiram

Akiram is 8 years old and has cerebral palsy. He came to Home of Hope through the probation officer. After Akiram’s parents passed on, his grandfather decided to take care of him. But the community realized it was too hard for the grandfather, since he was very old.

Akiram is being trained to learn to sit and roll in side lying position. He also can lift his head and reach out for objects like toys. He is on nutritional supplements, as he is too small for his age.

Akiram’s date of birth is January 27th 2010.
Amza

Amza is 8 years old and has cerebral palsy. He was staying with his grandmother after his mother passed on. His father is unknown. Amza’s grandmother was too old and very sickly. During outreach our team decided to take him to Home of Hope for temporary care.

Amza is very dependent in all the daily living activities. He is able to sit and roll, but cannot speak.

His date of birth is November 12th 2009.
Aura

Aura is 3 year old and has cerebral palsy. She was born a normal child, but became disabled at the age of 6 months after suffering from cerebral malaria.
Her father started disapprearing at home, after knowing his daughter was disabled, but could come home occasionally with threats of killing the mother and the child, saying he cannot give birth to a child with disability. Local authorities referred them to Home of Hope for help.

Aura is learning how to sit. Her date of birth is April 25th 2015.
Ausi

Ausi is 17 years old and has hydrocephalus. Ausi came to Home of Hope when his grandparents could no longer take care of him. The grandparents are too old and it was very hard to take care of him. His parents passed on when and he was heavy for them, Ausi’s parents passed on at an early age. The local council contacted the probation officer for who requested Home of Hope to take care of Ausi.

Ausi goes to a special need school. His date of birth is June 15th 2001.
Babirye

Babirye is 16 years old and she has a twin sister (identical). They both fell sick when they were babies and it affected their brain, which made them to have an intellectual disability.

Their parents passed on and they were left in the hands of an old woman, who tried her best to take care of them, but village men had started taking advantage by molesting them and several cases where reported to police. They contacted Home of Hope to rescue these girls from the shameless village men.

Both sisters are capable of going to school. Babirye likes making friends, cuddling, dancing and learning.

Babirye’s date of birth is September 14th 2002.
Bahati

Bahati is 3 year old and was born with spinal bifida. He was abandoned at the home of the probation officer. His father abandoned the mother after realizing that she gave birth to a child with a rare disability. Police tried to trace the mother in vain, but she hasn’t been found until today. Bahati was referred to Home of Hope for good care. He was just 6 months when he came.

He has learned how to sit independently and he is also able to crawl. Bahati likes to play with water and dough. He is currently learning to stand with support.

Bahati’s date of birth is August 6th 2015.
Brenda

Brenda is a 14 year old girl and has Down Syndrome. She lost her mother when she was just 2 years old. She was left to live with her grandmother until she was 13 years. She lost her grandmother in a road accident. After the burial of her grandmother, none of her relatives was willing to take care of her, because of her disabling condition.

For two months she lived alone, and she could only get food from the neighbors and Good Samaritans. But there were also days she could be without food, which resulted in malnutrition. She was rescued by the child and family protection unit of the police who referred her to the probation officer. This man contacted Home Hope who went with her staff to rescue Brenda.

She is now looking healthy, although she can’t walk and needs a lot of physiotherapy. Brenda is currently not attending school due to the fact that she does not have a sponsor, although she is capable of attending a special needs school.

Brenda’s date of birth is February 15th 2004.
Catherine

Catherine is 9 years old, has cerebral palsy and is HIV positive. She was staying with her grandparents, after her parents died of AIDS. They had problems in monitoring her medication and the rightful diet for her to boost her immunity. During our community work, Home of Hope staff identified this case and later decided to take care of her.

Catherine has learned how to sit and is being trained on crawling and standing.

Catherine’s date of birth is July 5th 2009.
Charity

Charity is 10 years old and has cerebral palsy. Her father was a soldier and died in a battle. Charity’s mother was young and got married to another man. As soon as they married, the stepfather mistreated her so badly and demanded the mother to abandon the child, since she is disabled. The local council leader took our outreach team to visit Charity’s family. The mum cried and requested our team to take her daughter with them, since her new husband was mistreating the girl.

Ever since we took Charity into our home, the parents disappeared and never came to visit her. Charity is learning to sit and feed herself.

Charity’s date of birth is May 6th 2008.
David

David is 10 years old and has cerebral palsy. David was abandoned by his mother at his grandmother’s place. After a few years, the grandmother passed away and David was left by himself in the house with no one to take care of him. Even the relatives left him after the funeral, except the neighbors. They got concerned, because the boy was starving to death. They contacted the authorities who requested Home of Hope to take care of him.

David is going through occupational therapy and is doing well.

David’s date of birth is June 6th 2008.
Farouk

Farouk is 7 years old and has cerebral palsy. He was staying with his mother, who is known to be having a mental problem and had attempted to kill him several times, but neighbors rescued him. This time round, they took the case to the probation officer of Jinja, who referred Farouk to Home of Hope for good care and safety.

Farouk is dependent in all the daily living activities. However, he is doing well with physiotherapy and is very active.

Farouk’s date of birth is June 5th 2011.
Geofrey

Geofrey is 18 years and has learning disabilities. He is a brother to Yonah, one of our children. His mother divorced his father due to the fact that he was an alcoholic and she also blamed him from having two children with disabilities. Geofrey became very malnourished and was serious infected with jiggers. Both brothers were rescued by Soft Power Health, who later referred them to Home of Hope.

Geofrey is doing very well and is a happy boy. He enjoys dancing to local music and going for a walk.

Geofrey’s date of birth is November 15th 1999.
Gloria

Gloria is 23 years old and has cerebral palsy. Gloria’s mother passed on during labor. She stayed with her aunt who used to lock her up in the house, while she goes to work the whole day. When the neighbors got to know of the child’s situation, they reported the aunt to police accusing her of child abuse and neglect. Police went to pick Gloria and took her to Home of Hope for temporary care and she has been here since then.

She has learnt to feed herself and can also sit on the floor with minimum support, but is limited to walk, speak and generally independent in most activities of daily living tasks.

Gloria’s date of birth is July 16th 1995.
Harriet

Harriet is 9 years old and deaf. She came to live at Home of Hope after the death of her parents and no one was willing to care for her or even support her to attain education, because of her disability. Harriet was staying with an uncle who is a drunkard and so irresponsible. During our community outreach, we discovered Harriet needed to get some education.

Harriet is currently in a boarding school and doing so well. She is such a social, hardworking, lovable and caring so much for others.

Harriet’s date of birth is June 10th 2009.
Henry

Henry is 11 years old and has cerebral palsy. He was born a normal child, but got cerebral malaria at the age of 9 months. This caused brain damage which resulted in cerebral palsy. The father started disappearing, after knowing his son was disabled. He could come home occasionally threatening to kill the mother and the boy, if they didn’t leave the home. Henry’s mother, Lydia, reported the case to police, so that the father could be arrested, but this was in vain. Local authorities referred them to Home of Hope for help. Henry lives with us, together with his mother.

Henry is learning how to sit, however he is very dependant in all the daily living activities.

Henry’s date of birth is May 21st 2007.
Isaac

Isaac is 17 years old and has cerebral palsy. He was living with his aunt after being abandoned by his mother, who has disappeared.
Following the death of his aunt due to a motor accident, he was left alone in the house. The landlord of the house went to the district officers who referred Isaac to home of Hope. On arrival he looked malnourished and had a big stomach, probably due to infestation by worms. He was immediately dewormed.

Isaac can sit and feed himself, however he is dependent in all other remaining daily living activities. He is usually withdrawn and rarely interacts with others in the home.

Isaac’s birthday is on September 10th 2001.
Jackson

Jackson is 5 years old and has hydrocephalus. He was found laying helplessly at Home of Hope compound early in the morning, being abandoned by an unknown person. Home of Hope reported the case to the police and probation officer, who requested Home of Hope to take care of Jackson as more investigations are done to find Jackson’s parents and/or relatives.

On arrival Jackson had also difficulties in breathing and was severe malnourished. He was in critical condition and needed to be operated as soon as possible to save his life. Jackson was taken to Cure Children’s Hospital in Mbale where they operated him successfully. We thank Gof for Jackson’s life.

Jackson had been on a special nutritional diet and is a healthy happy boy now.

Jackson’s date of birth is October 20th 2012.
Jamira

Jamira is 11 years old and has cerebral palsy. Her father abandoned the family after spending a lot of money on Jamira’s health without any improvement. Till now no one knows where the father is. Her mother is a prostitute and neglected her daughter.

Jamira does well with physiotherapy and is being trained to stand and walk. She is able to stand on her own, supported by the wall and she is very proud of that.

Jamira’s date of birth is February 5th 2007.
Jane

Jane is 14 years old and is affected by intellectual disability, cerebral palsy and epilepsy. She came to live at Home of Hope, after being abandoned along the road in Kampala by unknown people. She was picked up by police, who handed her over to Foodstep Entebbe. But since Foodstep takes care of normal children, they had to request Home of Hope for further management.

Jane presents bilateral knee contractures caused by long periods of squatting. She is always withdrawn and prefers to be alone most of the times.
However, she is dependent on the care givers to perform tasks like dressing, toileting and bathing.

Jane’s date of birth is August 8th 2004.
Jesica

Jesica is 18 years old and has muscular dystrophy, which means her muscles have been replaced by fatty tissue making it difficult to move her body parts. She has lost most of her movement skills, since this condition worsens with increasing age. She was left with her father following the death of her mother in a motor accident.

Her father married another woman, who started mistreating Jesica. This because she was embarrassed having a child with such a severe disability. Jesica was identified by our team that had gone for home visits, and she narrated her ordeal to the team. She told them she was being denied food and also been prevented from going to school. Because of this Jesica was admitted at Home of Hope.

Jesica attends secondary school and is currently in senior three with very promising results. She likes reading the bible and her school notes. She also likes watching TV.

Jesica’s date of birth is October 14th 1999.
Joan

Joan is 17 years old and has cerebral palsy as well as epilepsy. Following the death of her parents, she was abandoned in a dilapidated building. Since she had epileptic seizures, her relatives could not stand her claiming that she was demon possessed. That’s why they abandoned her.

Home of Hope was contacted to come and pick her. On our visit we found her lying in rags, half naked, hungry, malnourished and very unkempt. Home of Hope staff cleaned her, dressed her up in new clothes and took her to her new home.

Joan is currently living a happy life; she is on medication to control her seizures and is trained to learn to walk. She likes listening to stories, dancing and making friends.

Joan’s date of birth is May 22nd 2001.
Joseph

Joseph is 7 years old and has Autism Spectrum Disorder. He came to live at Home of Hope due to abandonment at Corsu Hospital on Entebbe Road. Corsu got concerned and reported the case to Entebbe police, who later had to find a temporally home for him. They took him to Foodstep Uganda, while they tried to trace for relatives.

Unfortunately Foodstep Ugand takes only care of normal children; therefore a referral was made to Home of Hope for more special assistance. Up to know no relatives have been found.

Joseph has challenging behaviors, he has visual impairment and he often bangs his head on the floor whenever he is upset. At Home of Hope we managed to get him a head protective device that helps to protect his head whenever he hits on the floor.

Joseph’s date of birth is March 2nd 2011.
Joseph

Joseph is 6 years old and has cerebral palsy. He was abandoned at Home of Hope’s premises and was found in the morning. Home of Hope contacted the local council authorities, police and probation officer. They requested Home of Hope to give temporally care, as further investigations had to be done. Up to now, nobody knows anything, so Joseph will remain at Home of Hope.

Joseph is being trained in head control, side lying and sitting. He likes being cuddled, playing with him and taking him for a walk.

Joseph's date of birth is February 4th 2012.
Junior

Junior is 7 years old and has hydrocephalus. Junior was born by a teenage mother of 14 years who got pregnant while still in school. His father denied the boy, claiming in their clan they do not give birth to children with disabilities.

His mother went back to school, leaving Junior with his grandmother who also got stranded with him, because the size of the head kept on increasing and she did not have money to pay for his neurosurgery. The probation officer referred him to Home of Hope, so that he can be supported to go for surgery.

He was operated, but afterwards the grandmother refused to take him back since he was weak and sickly. So he remained at Home of Hope.

Junior has since learned to sit independently, can feed himself and also crawl. He is currently being trained how to walk.

Junior’s date of birth is November 5th 2010.
Katie

Katie is 26 years old and has epilepsy. Before Katie came to live at Home of Hope, she was staying with her very old grandmother. She was abandoned with her grandmother, who was very weak to even care for her whenever she had the severe seizures. People around her always thought she was demon possessed and they had serious stigma towards her to the extent that no one could associate with her hence being discriminated by many apart from her grandmother.

Unfortunately, her loving grandmother passed on and Katie was all by herself, since no one was willing to take her up. The neighbors around contacted the police that had to find where Katie could be temporally as her relatives are traced in order to be reunified by her family members. Until now nobody has been found, so she will stay with us.

Katie still has the severe seizures, even when she is on strong anti-epileptic medication.

Her date of birth is February 8th 1992.
Kaudha

Kaudha is 16 years old and she has a twin sister (identical). They both fell sick when they were babies and it affected their brain, which made them to have an intellectual disability.

Laziya

Laziya is 3 years old and has cerebral palsy. She was abandoned along the roadside. It was hard to notice that a child was lying there helplessly, since she is too small. It had rained on her so badly; some people who were passing by noticed it was a child after hearing her cry. They immediately reported the case to police and she was rushed to the hospital for treatment. She was diagnosed with severe malaria, cerebral palsy and malnutrition. Police reached out to Home of Hope to take care of her.

Laziya is now on nutritional supplements and is doing much better.

Laziya’s date of birth is August 20th 2015.
Mary

Mary is 13 years old and was born in a family where both parents are affected by intellectual disability. Mary is their only child and both parents lack the capacity to take care of her. Mary was always wondering in the village looking for food, since the parents couldn’t provide for her.

Mary was at risk of being defiled, since she was always on the move. She was found malnourished and her feet were full of parasites called jiggers. We identified this family during our field work and we decided to rescue Mary’s life.

Mary can comprehend basic instructions and therefore she can go to school. So next year she will start schooling. Currently we are helping her to learn basic self help skills and also work on preschool skills like shading and colouring.

Mary’s date of birth is July 18th 2004.
Maureen

Maureen is 17 years old and has cerebral palsy. After her parents died, she stayed with her grandmother. Her grandmother was too old to provide all the basic needs that Maureen needed and could not even handle carrying the child from bed.

During a home visit, our team of Home of Hope realized that the child needed more care and the grandmother accepted to take her with us. Maureen has been able to learn how to sit, feed herself and crawl around. Thanks to therapy she also can now stand with support from the wall and walk with a walker.

Maureen loves going to school. Also she loves helping at home with the smaller children, watching movies, listening and dancing to music.

Maureen’s date of birth is September 7th 2001.
Miracle

Miracle is 16 years old and has cerebral palsy. Miracle was brought to Home of Hope by the district probation officer. Her mum abandoned her with a note. The people who found her brought her to the district probation officer.

Miracle is doing well with therapy. She has learnt to sit without support and is being trained on feeding herself.

Miracle’s date of birth is April 14th 2002.
Moses

Moses is 7 years old and has cerebral palsy. His mother abandoned him with and old woman, who claimed to be his grandmother. The suspected father took Moses for DNA test and the results showed that this wasn’t his child. When the mother heard that, she disappeared. The police was contacted and referred the child to an organization called Foodstep Uganda. Since they don’t have facilities to take care of disabled children, they referred him to Home of Hope.

Moses is a very happy boy! His date of birth is February 16th 2011.
Patrick

Patrick is 4 year old and has cerebral palsy. His mother is a prostitute and every night he was alone at home, locked up. The neighbors contacted police and took Patrick away, so he could get the love and care he needed. He was referred to an organization called Foodstep Uganda, who referred him to Home of Hope, since they don’t have the right facilities for children with disabilities. He is dependent on the caregivers in everything. Patrick is a sweet little boy that loves to be carried as much as possible. Patrick’s date of birth is April 4th 2014.
Peter

Peter is 7 years old, has Cerebral Palsy and is HIV positive. Peter came to Home of Hope after the grandmother abandoned him. She couldn’t take care of herself, so definitely she couldn’t take care of Peter. She could not meet his medical needs, yet the child was requiring close monitoring and supervision.

When Peter came he could not sit, stand, walk or crawl. Thanks to physiotherapy he is now able to walk and do most of the things himself. Peter likes playing, dancing, making friends and going for a walk.

Peter’s date of birth is August 16th 2010.
Peter

Peter is 14 years old and has cerebral palsy. There is not much known about Peter, since he was picked from the garbage at Sanyu Babies Home in Kampala. They weren’t able to establish his biological data. Being a child with cerebral palsy Sanyu Babies Home could not give him the medical and special care he needed.

Peter is undergoing therapy and is able to feed himself and is learning to stand. He can crawl and is able to communicate using signs and gestures. He goes to a special need school and is doing well. Peter is a very happy boy and loves playing with his brothers and sisters, watching TV and dancing to local music.

Peter’s date of birth is March 4th 2004.
Prossy

Prossy is 27 years old and has hydrocephalus. Prossy was one of the first children at Home of Hope. She was staying with her grandmother, since her father was mentally ill and her mother abandoned her. Her grandmother was an old lady who couldn’t take care of her. Prossy could be locked in the house for hours, when she went to the garden to work. Prossy didn’t even have a mattress to sleep on, she was just laying on paper bags. She could take days without showering, since the girl was too heavy for the old woman.

Prossy is now staying at Home of hope, because the grandmother passed away and she has no home or relatives where she could stay. But she has a lovely home now. Prossy can talk and feed herself, but apart from that she is dependent on caregivers.

Prossy’s date of birth is January 20th 1991.
Rahumah

Rahumah is 11 years old and is affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. She is also deaf and blind as well. Her mother separated with her father after noticing that his daughter was having a disability. The father claimed they do not have children with disabilities in their clan. Rahumah’s mother then left her to live with one of her sisters after getting a job outside the country, but the family since then lost contact with her.

Her aunt eventually got married and could not take Rahumah along with her, so she was left behind with the neighbors who then took her to police, because they could not manage to live with her. They claimed that their landlady had asked them to leave, because Rahumah was scaring away the other tenants who had threatened to leave.

From the police she was taken to a home that takes care of normal children who also rejected to admit her, because she was having a disability. They claimed they did not have any specialized skills to take care of her. The police and probation officers of Kampala got stranded with Rahumah for several months and eventually got in touch with Home of Hope who agreed to take temporary custody of her as they trace for her parents. Up to now no relatives have been found.

Rahumah’s date of birth is November 16th 2006.
Rashida

Rashida is 8 years old, affected by Osteogenesis Imperfecta or brittle bone disease, meaning her bones easily fracture. Also she has Sickle Cell Disease. Her mother divorced her father on grounds that he had a disability too. It was too hard for the mother to continue staying with them. But she left two disabled people behind who were helpless. By the time Rashida was admitted at Home of Hope, her father was very ill and admitted in the hospital.

Rashida can move around by scooting on her buttocks, her cognitive skills are good. She goes to school and enjoys it. Rashida likes watching movies, dancing to local music and singing.

Rashida’s date of birth is December 24th 2009.
Richard

Richard is 7 years old and is affected by developmental delay or delayed milestones, meaning he achieves his milestones rather late as compared to his peers. He is also epileptic and experiences frequent seizures. His mother was not sure of his father was the real father, since she was seeing two men concurrently, so she ended up abandoning him with the grandparents.

The grandparents took him to the shrine to try to get a cure for his epilepsy, but ended up abandoning him with the witchdoctor after failing to get a cure. He was picked up by police who later took him to Home of Hope.

Richard’s date of birth is May 20th 2010.
Robert

Robert is 9 years old and has a severe form of cerebral palsy. He was taken to Sonrise Babies Home, following the deaths of both of his parents and nobody else to take care of him. The Babies Home didn’t have facilities to help disabled children, so they refused to admit him. He was referred to Home of Hope by the probation officer, after being turned away from most of the child care institutions that mainly look after normal children.

Robert is currently being helped to learn how to sit and to move his body. He likes listening to soft music and being cuddled.

Robert’s date of birth is August 9th 2009.
Sanon

Sanon is 10 years old and has cerebral palsy. Sanon’s parents passed on and his grandmother decided to take care of him. During outreaches we saw that the grandmother couldn’t any longer take care of him, since it was hard for her to handle his disability. The local council asked Home of Hope to rescue this boy, since he was severe malnourished. Sanon got a special nutritional diet and also therapy to avoid secondary disability.

Sanon is now able to go to school and is learning sign language and self help skills. He can feed himself and has good social skills. He is doing well and is always happy!

Sanon’s date of birth is November 30th 2007.
Shakira

Shakira is 13 years old and has cerebral palsy. We supported her in the beginning through our outreach program, when she was still staying with her mother and two siblings. They lived a few kilometers away from Home of Hope. Following the death of her mother during labor, we were left with no choice, but to admit her at Home of Hope, since no relative was willing to take care of her, because of her disability. The normal siblings were taken by relatives.

Due to the severity of her condition, she is completely dependent on the care providers in all activities of daily living.

Shakira’s date of birth is December 27th 2004.
Swabul

Swabul is 10 years old and has cerebral palsy. When he was 7 months old he suffered from malaria and was treated with quinine. After realizing there was no improvement, the mother took him to another hospital, but didn’t give the medical history to the doctor. So the boy was treated with quinine again, which affected him seriously and the disability began like that.

The mother ran away after discovering her son has a disability. The boy was given to the grandmother, who sadly passed away. Swabul was left helpless. The neighbors contacted police who later placed Swabul at home of Hope.

Swabul’s date of birth is August 10th 2008.
Teddy

Teddy is 11 years old and has cerebral palsy. She came to live at Home of Hope after being mistreated by her stepmother. Teddy’s mother passed on when she was still young and was left with the dad, who married another woman. She mistreated Teddy by denying her food, beating her and made her life miserable. The local authorities were noticed and the stepmother was arrested, who was released after a few days. Both the dad and stepmother fled their home, since they were just renting. Teddy was rescued by police and took her to Home of Hope.

Teddy goes to school and understands everything very well. She is independent in most of the daily living activities. She is getting physiotherapy to learn how to walk.

Teddy’s date of birth is April 3rd 2007.
Timothy

Timothy is 7 years old and has hydrocephalus. He was abandoned and the person who found him took him to the probation officer, who referred him to Home of Hope. On arrival at Home of Hope, Timothy was in need of emergency neuron surgery to control excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid. He was taken to Cure Children’s Hospital in Mbale where he underwent several operations. He was also severe malnourished, but has greatly improved.

Timothy is now able to sit in his special seat for some minutes. He likes playing and interacting with friends around him.

Timothy’s date of birth is February 16th 2011.
Tony

Tony is 15 years old and has a mild form of hydrocephalous and a developmental delay. Tony stayed with his mother, until she passed away because of AIDS. Following the death of his mother, he was taken up by his aunt who immediately started to mistreat him. She could lock him up in the house, denied him food and physically abused him. A Good Samaritan reported the matter to police, who took him to Home of Hope. The aunt fled the home for fear of being arrested and till now nobody knows where she is.

When Tony came to Home of Hope he was very weak and malnourished, he couldn’t do anything for himself. Now Tony can do most of the activities of daily living, including walking. Also he can now speak and he understands everything.

Tony goes to a special needs school and loves it. We thank God for Tony’s life, because he is a living testimony. Tony enjoys music, going for a walk and singing.

Tony’s date of birth is March 15th 2003.
Waswa

Waswa is 15 years old and has hydrocephalus. Waswa was living with his younger siblings, after their parents divorced. The mother disappeard and the father decided to stay with another woman, leaving the children alone. Waswa was the eldest and the siblings could leave him in the house as they have gone to school. He could spend the whole day without food, being left in urine the whole day. The probation officer was informed about this situation and referred Waswa to Home of Hope.

On arrival Waswa was very weak and severe malnourished, but his health has greatly improved ever since he got the love and care he needs. Waswa is now able to sit on his own, use his left hand and dress and feed himself.

Waswa goes to a special need school. He likes listening to music, going for a walk, chatting with his friends and visitors.

Waswa’s date of birth is October 4th 2002.
Wilson

Wilson is 6 years old and has cerebral palsy. He came to live at Home of Hope, after being rescued by UN forces in the jungles of the Democratic Republic of Congo, where his both parents are fighting in the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebel group. He was then flown to Kampala where he was brought to Loving Hearts Babies Home. He stayed there for 2 months.

Unfortunately, the Babies Home takes care of children from 0-3 years and don’t have facilities to take care of disabled children. The probation officer and police of Kampala later ordered Home of Hope to take on the child for further management.

Wilson is unable to sit, stand, and use his hands. Therefore he is dependent on the care givers for all daily tasks. The police is working very hard to find the relatives of Wilson, though it’s so hard since the parents are rebels.

Wilson’s date of birth is November 5th 2011.
Yonah

Yonah is 13 years old and has a severe form of cerebral palsy. Yonah is the brother to Geofrey, how is also disabled. His parents divorced after the mother realized she had two children with disabilities. She left the children the father, who had eight other children. His father became an alcoholic and left the children unattended and without food. Yonah became severe malnourished.

Together with his brother they were referred to Home of Hope for nutritional support, care and therapy. Yonah’s health has greatly improved following proper diet and regular therapy. He is a lovely boy!

Yonah’s date of birth is December 12th 2004.
